Care & Cleaning

All wood will react to seasonal changes in humidity—expanding during more humid months and contracting during dryer months. Cabinetry by Woodharbor has been specially engineered to accommodate this reaction to changes in the environment. However, it is still very important to regulate the humidity level in your home at 40-50% and to take proper care of your Woodharbor wood products.

STAIN & ENAMEL Care & Cleaning for Stain or Enamel

Cabinetry by Woodharbor requires a very minimal maintenance program to preserve its beautiful finish. A Woodharbor finish is specially formulated to “flex” with the wood to create an especially durable finish. Woodharbor’s finish is formulated with a “catalyst” to create a very strong bond with the wood surface and with UV inhibitors to reduce natural mellowing of the finish from exposure to sunlight.

Woodharbor recommends the following care and cleaning program:

  • Use a soft cloth to remove construction/installation dust from all surfaces.
  • Clean your new cabinets/doors with a soft cloth and a solution of water and mild dish soap and then dry with a soft, lint-free cloth.
  • Dust or polish your Woodharbor cabinetry/doors often with a clean, soft cloth.
  • Always wipe with the direction of the grain.
  • Clean any spills as soon as possible – blot rather than wipe.
  • Do not use your dishcloth to clean your cabinetry or doors.
  • Do not use harsh cleansers, detergents, commercial cleaners or abrasives.
  • Do not use wax or silicone-based polishes.

THERMOFOIL Care & Cleaning for Thermofoil

Regular Care and Cleaning

Always use a cotton cloth or non-abrasive sponge

Option 1: Wipe with a damp cloth or sponge with mild dish soap.
Option 2: Wipe with a damp cloth or sponge using 50/50 mix of water and Simple Green®. (Simple Green works well on oily or tacky surfaces)

Cleaning Stains (Infrequent Care)
Always use a cotton cloth or non-abrasive sponge

Step 1: Using a damp cloth or sponge with a 50/50 mix of water and Simple Green, scrub lightly for 10 or 20 strokes. This should remove most stains. If stain persists, move on to Step 2 and if necessary, Step 3.
Step 2: Using a damp cloth or sponge with Buckeye Workout®, standard Fantastik® (S.C. Johnson), or standard Forumula 409® (The Clorox Co.), lightly wipe for 10 to 20 strokes.  Note: Buckeye Workout contains water and propylene glycol phenyl ether.
Step 3: Place a cloth or sponge damp with 70% Isopropyl Alcohol on top of the stain for 30 minutes. After 30 minutes, remove the cloth or sponge and wipe. This should remove makeup, ball-point ink, and other stubborn stains. If stain persists, repeat Step 3 until stain is removed.

Disinfecting Thermofoil Surfaces
A mixture of 10% bleach, 90% water can be used as a disinfectant on most thermofoil surfaces. Before using the mixture on an entire surface, be sure to test it on an inconspicuous spot.

Cleaners to Avoid

  • ƒƒAny abrasive cleaner
  • ƒƒMost solvent based cleaners and harsh chemicals such as sink & toilet bowl cleaners
  • ƒƒAny cleaner in combination with a brush
  • ƒƒCleaners containing ammonia
  • ƒƒBaking Soda

If a harsh chemical is spilled on a thermofoil surface, wipe it up immediately. Then wash the surface with soap water and rinse several times.

ACRYLIC Care & Cleaning for Acrylic

Regular Care and Handling

  • ƒƒLeave protective film in place until the project is complete
  • ƒƒDo not store panels outside
  • ƒƒDo not store or transport panels in direct sunlight
  • ƒƒAvoid sliding the panels on the outer surface
  • ƒƒAn Acrylic Polishing Kit is recommended

The high gloss surface on our acrylic doors becomes more scratch resistant over the first few days after the protective film has been removed. This process can be accelerated by lightly polishing the surface immediately after the protective film is removed using Ultra-Gloss Superpolish + DGS, Novus 1 Polish, or Plexus Plastic Cleaner with a clean micro-fiber cloth.

Cleaning
Best results will be achieved using wet micro-fiber cloths or chamois with mild soap and water. Never dry wipe the acrylic finish. Applying Ultra-Gloss Superpolish + DGS, Novus 1 Polish, or Plexus Plastic Cleaner on a weekly basis will maintain the acrylic finish in an optimum condition.

Adhesive may be present near the edgebanding on the face of acrylic components. It can be easily and safely removed with mineral spirits and a chamois, mircro-fiber or very soft cloth. ONLY USE MINERAL SPIRITS ON ACRYLIC PRODUCTS. It will damage thermofoil products.

Avoid harsh household cleaners and abrasives. Always check the active ingredients of your cleaners to be sure there are no potentially harmful chemicals. Do not use acetone, chloroform, benzene, ammonia, thinners, caustic soda, toluene, xylene, dichloromethane, amylacetate, glacial acetate acid, butyl alcohol, butyl acetate, cellusolve, cresols/phenols, ethylacetate, chlorinated solvents, halogenated solvents, methyl alcohol, methyl ethyl keytone. Woodharbor is not responsible for any damage done by abrasive cleaning products or procedures.

Other Cleaners to Avoid

  • ƒƒAny abrasive cleaner
  • ƒƒPaper towels, brushes, scourers or scrapers
  • ƒƒMost solvent based cleaners and harsh chemical
